The Intimate World of Abraham Lincoln

The Intimate World of Abraham Lincoln

Tripp(同是性向研究家)寫的.

It’s a biography of Lincoln written by C.A. Tripp, proud student of Alfred Kinsey. I didn’t realize it in the library, but it’s about several of Lincoln’s most intimate relationships, his wives, and his male partners. The book argues Lincoln was gay, which is interesting to me, but not what I was looking for to read - his tactics and skills in handling human relationships, and large and small crisises throughout his public career. So I read the first 3 chapters, and decided to move on.

Don’t be mistaken, I learned a whole lot - due to my absolute ignorance towards - about Lincoln’s early life, his personality, etc. I was interested in seeing how he successfully led lives as a gay man seperate and concealed from his public career life. Also wanted to see what made him so welcomed among many people - what made him a successful human relationist. It seems people around him all agreed that he was  honest, sympethetic, and very witty, despite gloomy and caught in thoughts a lot, he could be witty and full of jokes and fun to be around now and then. He consciously worked very hard on learning and reading, not just factual knowledge for trades, but also human knowledge for being a good person to be around. Well, that didn’t make clear sense… . Let’s try this : Lincoln certainly did not believe in fate, astrology, or even the Bible too strongly. He read the Bible, but he wasn’t enthusiastic about it as sometimes described to be. He was always looking to learn, and if something didn’t seem to work to him, he was willing to change it instead of leaving it up to some predetermined end. That included society as well as his own personality; from abolishing slavery to changing from a quick-tongue merciless lawyer to someone who almost never criticize
